99 Reinforced Wooden Stick
A shimmering VR world swallows the screen, and one man logs in with a grin already half-cracked. Years of grinding, whaling, pouring real cash into every stat-boosting cosmetic the cash shop could cough up — he built the most beautiful avatar the servers had ever seen. The gods of this game rewarded his wallet with a golden aura and the envy of millions. Then the server-wide bug hits, his account corrupts, and when the pixels settle, everything is gone. The angelic warrior, the maxed-out sword, the aura that made low-level mobs kneel. All that remains clutched in his hands is a single starting weapon: a wooden stick. The worst weapon in the game.
This should be the cue to quit. But quitting is not installed in his firmware. So he does the unthinkable — he pours every scrap of enhancement material into the stick. One reinforcement. Two. Fifty. Ninety-eight. The wooden stick begins to crackle with an energy the game's developers never coded, a glitch in the system that rewrites the rules of what a "worst weapon" can become. While other players chase legendary swords and divine spears, a lunatic with a stick is one-shotting bosses and carving his name into the leaderboards. The server soon faces a question no guidebook prepared them for: what happens when the weakest item breaks through its own ceiling?
